Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a hybrid Cardiac ICU/Stepdown (CCU) position at a large Level I Trauma Center and academic medical center, requiring 2 years of experience and an active CT license.

Details

  • Hybrid unit consisting of 8 cardiac ICU beds and 6 cardiac stepdown beds
  • ICU patient population is primarily CT Surgery pre- and post-op, with some Advanced Heart Failure cases
  • Stepdown patients include CT Surgery, peripheral vascular (PV), and Heart Failure
  • Daily nursing assignments rotate between ICU and stepdown; floating within the unit and to other stepdown areas may occur based on facility needs
  • Average patient ratio of 1:3
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:00)
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call required
  • Charting system: Epic (required)
  • Short-term acute care hospital setting, Level I Trauma Center with 1,567 staffed beds
  • Block scheduling is not available

Requirements

  • Active CT or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted if active prior to start date (CT license typically takes 15–21 business days to issue, so early application is strongly encouraged)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU/CCU experience required (candidates with 1.5 years may be considered with Level I Trauma or travel experience)
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS; CCRN preferred
  • Experience at a large trauma center or academic medical center required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Required skills: IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care and management
  • Proficiency with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, 12-lead EKG/ECG, continuous IV sedation, and pulmonary artery/Swan-Ganz monitoring
  • Experience with care of ventilated patients, epicardial pacing wire management, post-cardiac surgery care, and valve repair/replacement preferred
  • Comfort with HVC (High Value Care) practices required
  • 1 professional reference required for consideration
  • Active nursing license must be free of prior disciplinary actions

  • Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Former permanent staff must have been separated for at least 2 years to be eligible as a traveler
  • RTO requests of 7 days or fewer can typically be accommodated; requests exceeding 7 days require facility approval
  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • Flu vaccine is mandatory; declinations are not accepted
  • COVID vaccine with booster required; religious or medical exemptions may be considered
