A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to help patients develop, recover, and improve the skills needed for daily living and working. COTAs assist in implementing treatment plans for individuals with physical, developmental, or emotional challenges to enhance independence and quality of life.

• Implement treatment plans developed by the Occupational Therapist
• Assist patients with therapeutic activities to improve daily living skills (ADLs) such as dressing, grooming, and feeding
• Provide exercises to enhance strength, coordination, and motor skills
• Train patients in the use of adaptive equipment and assistive devices
• Monitor and document patient progress and report changes to the OT
• Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs and adaptive techniques
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized therapy environment
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and safety standards
• Support patients with cognitive, sensory, and psychosocial needs

• Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
• Certification as a COTA through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
• Active state license or certification (as required)
• CPR/BLS certification (preferred or required)

• New graduates welcome; clinical fieldwork required
• 6 months–1 year of experience preferred (varies by employer)
• Experience in settings such as rehab, skilled nursing, outpatient, or pediatrics is a plus

• Strong understanding of occupational therapy techniques and interventions
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to follow treatment plans accurately and efficiently
• Strong observational and documentation skills
• Compassionate, patient-centered approach
• Physical stamina to assist patients with mobility and activities
• Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams

• Hospitals, rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, schools, or home health settings
• May require standing, lifting, and assisting patients throughout the day
