Responsibilities
  • Prepare operating rooms with sterile instruments, equipment, and surgical supplies before procedures
  • Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures using strict aseptic techniques
  • Assist surgeons by passing instruments, sutures, sponges, and surgical supplies during operations
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure efficient workflow
  • Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts before, during, and after surgical procedures
  • Prepare and organize specialty instruments and equipment for various surgical cases
  • Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, and safe transfer before and after surgery
  • Handle and properly label surgical specimens according to facility policies
  • Perform operating room turnover and prepare rooms for subsequent procedures
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, sterilization, and patient safety standards
  • Collaborate with surgeons, registered nurses, anesthesia providers, and perioperative staff to deliver outstanding patient care
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program
  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential preferred or required per facility policy
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Surgical Technologist experience
  • Current BLS Certification required
  • Experience assisting with general surgery and multiple surgical specialties preferred
  • Strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and operating room procedures
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
  • Ability to remain calm and efficient during complex and emergency surgical procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and actively participate throughout surgical procedures
