  • Position: Surgical Technologist – Labor & Delivery (L&D)
  • Location: Des Moines
  • Contract Length: 13 Weeks
  • Shift: Night Shift
  • Schedule: 3x12
  • Experience Required: 1 Year
  • Weekly Pay: $1800 to $2000
Responsibilities
  • Prepare Labor & Delivery operating rooms for cesarean sections and obstetrical procedures
  • Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures using proper aseptic techniques
  • Assist obstetricians by passing instruments, sutures, sponges, and surgical supplies during procedures
  • Prepare surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies before each case
  • Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts before, during, and after procedures
  • Assist with patient positioning and preparation for surgery
  • Support the Labor & Delivery team during emergency cesarean sections and urgent obstetrical procedures
  • Handle and label surgical specimens according to facility protocols
  • Perform operating room turnover and prepare for subsequent procedures
  • Maintain compliance with infection prevention, sterilization, and patient safety standards
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, registered nurses, anesthesia providers, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver outstanding maternal and newborn care
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program
  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential preferred or required per facility policy
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Surgical Technologist experience, preferably in Labor & Delivery or Obstetrics
  • Current BLS Certification required
  • Experience assisting with cesarean sections and obstetrical surgical procedures preferred
  • Strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and operating room procedures
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
  • Ability to remain calm and efficient during emergency situations
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and assist during surgical procedures
