Job Title: Surgical Technologist Profession: Surgical Tech Specialty: CVOR Duration: 17 Shift: First Shift Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: Seven years License: Certified Surgical Tech (CST) Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Technical Diploma from an accredited Surgical Technologist program or comparable military training. - Certified Surgical Tech (CST) certification. - BLS certification. Description: The Surgical Technologist serves as a primary scrub person or assistant for operative procedures. Job Responsibilities: Surgical preparation includes scrubbing into cases. Ensure instruments and supplies are available for the scheduled case. Set up cases ensuring that all instruments are thoroughly sterilized. Maintain the sterile field during case set-up. Alert the circulating nurse of any identified risks or variations from standard operating procedures. During surgical cases, pass instruments and assist the physician as needed. May assist the physician in cutting suture material. May apply electrocautery to clamps on bleeders under the direct supervision of the surgeon. Conduct instrument, sponge, and sharps counts. Maintain the sterile field throughout the case. Assist in draping and help the circulating RN with patient positioning. Collaborate with the circulating nurse to carry out appropriate interventions. Post-case clean-up involves working with the circulating nurse and orderlies to perform cleaning duties. Responsible for the gross decontamination of instruments, including breaking down instruments for further cleaning. Follow all standards for instrument transport and return. Notify the appropriate leader of any damaged instruments at the end of the case. Ensure the surgical suite is disinfected and ready for the next procedure. Check par levels and ensure the room is fully stocked for the next case. Complete all mandatory hospital education and maintain compliance with all HR and Employee Health requirements. Follow all safe practices in the operating room and complete the age-specific annual assessment of competency documents. Promote a high level of satisfaction by providing information about what to expect. Actively listen and intentionally follow up on questions and concerns, including taking corrective action when necessary. Collaborate, respect, and cooperate with all co-workers, valuing differences and addressing concerns directly, while contributing to the vision and results of the team. Practice effective, clear, and respectful communication and demonstrate attentiveness through active listening and engaged body language. Accept responsibility for words, actions, attitude, and results while meeting deadlines and performance expectations.
