Description:
To provide safe care for patients following established standards and practices in accordance with professional and hospital standards.
Constant interaction with internal and external customers including patients, families, physicians, employees, and visitors.
Assists in the coordination of patient care by supporting the registered nurse in planning patient care.
Collaborates with other health team members and participates in performance improvement activities.
Acts in the role of support during the surgical procedure but not as a surgical assistant.
Implements patient care by creating and maintaining asepsis and performing scrubbing duties.
Communicates patient information to appropriate persons and accounts for all equipment and supplies used in patient care.
Maintains effective communication with peers, other health team members, patients, and visitors.
Supports teamwork within the department and units and resolves problems as they arise.
Consistently meets customer service quality standards of the department.
Performs the clinical preceptor role for scrubbing and collaborates with the patient care coordinator and educator.
Maintains cleanliness in the unit and ensures equipment is cleaned and well cared for.
Responsible for the equipment used during the surgical case and performs other job duties as required.
This position has limited access to medication rooms and medications should not be handled.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks quickly in a fast-paced environment.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and moving patients.
Intermittent lifting of up to 50 lbs and frequent pushing or pulling of similar weight.
Requires frequent hand dexterity and constant reaching with hands and arms.
Exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and possible exposure to infectious materials.
Moderate to high noise levels may be present in the work area, and work may be required under stressful conditions.
Availability for call and/or weekends based on departmental needs is essential.
Must have experience in cardiovascular operating room settings.
