ER RN Job Description
- Provide safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, triage, and ongoing monitoring based on patient acuity.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and respond promptly to emergent situations.
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to physician orders and facility protocols.
- Initiate and assist with emergency interventions, procedures, and treatments.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, technicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Prioritize care effectively in a fast-paced emergency department environment.
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, follow-up care, and discharge instructions.
- Follow hospital policies, infection-control standards, patient-safety procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Provide professional, patient-centered care to individuals with a wide range of medical and emergency conditions.
- Demonstrate strong clinical judgment, communication skills, adaptability, and teamwork throughout the assignment.
Education Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Alabama.
Certification Requirements
- Current BLS certification.
- ACLS certification required.
- PALS certification required.
- CEN or TNCC certification required.
- Additional emergency nursing certifications are a plus.
Experience Requirements
- 12 months of Emergency Department or Emergency Room nursing experience preferred.
- Experience caring for patients across a broad range of acuity levels strongly preferred.
- Strong assessment, prioritization, critical-thinking, and emergency-response skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Previous travel or contract nursing experience is preferred but not required.
