ER RN Job Description

• Provide safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, triage, and ongoing monitoring based on patient acuity.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and respond promptly to emergent situations.
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to physician orders and facility protocols.
• Initiate and assist with emergency interventions, procedures, and treatments.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, technicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Prioritize care effectively in a fast-paced emergency department environment.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, follow-up care, and discharge instructions.
• Follow hospital policies, infection-control standards, patient-safety procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Provide professional, patient-centered care to individuals with a wide range of medical and emergency conditions.
• Demonstrate strong clinical judgment, communication skills, adaptability, and teamwork throughout the assignment.

Education Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
• Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Alabama.

Certification Requirements

• Current BLS certification.
• ACLS certification required.
• PALS certification required.
• CEN or TNCC certification required.
• Additional emergency nursing certifications are a plus.

Experience Requirements

• 12 months of Emergency Department or Emergency Room nursing experience preferred.
• Experience caring for patients across a broad range of acuity levels strongly preferred.
• Strong assessment, prioritization, critical-thinking, and emergency-response skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Previous travel or contract nursing experience is preferred but not required.
