Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend, with some holiday coverage
• Scheduling Flexibility: Four 12-hour shifts and Friday–Sunday block scheduling may be considered
• Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients
• Typical Patient Ratio: 1:2
• Unit Setting: 18-bed neuroscience ICU supporting comprehensive stroke services
• Additional Expectations: Travel nurses may be asked to float as needed; candidates residing within 50 miles of the assignment location are not eligible

Neuro ICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of acute care Registered Nurse experience within the past 3 years, including experience in the specialty submitted
• Recent ICU or Neuro ICU nursing experience required; neurosurgery experience preferred
• Active Wisconsin or compact Registered Nurse license
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association
• Epic electronic medical record experience required
• Basic arrhythmia interpretation experience required
• Experience with intracranial pressure monitoring, external ventricular drains, or ventriculostomy care required
• Ability to care for both ICU and intermediate-care patients
• Successful completion of a pre-assignment telemetry examination, with strict passing criteria and up to two attempts
• Strong clinical judgment, critical-thinking skills, communication abilities, and commitment to patient-centered care

Neuro ICU Travel Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for critically ill adult and geriatric patients with complex neurological diagnoses
• Care for patients experiencing ischemic stroke, post-thrombectomy recovery, subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebral hemorrhage, status epilepticus, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and post-neurosurgical conditions
• Monitor and manage patients with external ventricular drains, lumbar drains, intracranial pressure monitoring, and advanced neurological monitoring equipment
• Perform hemodynamic monitoring and manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, and other invasive devices
• Care for ventilated patients and manage BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, suctioning, and airway support
• Titrate cardiac, vasoactive, sedative, insulin, and paralytic infusions according to prescribed protocols
• Recognize and respond to dysrhythmias, acute neurological changes, and other emergent clinical conditions
• Administer blood products, emergency medications, procedural sedation, and hypothermia or temperature-management therapies as indicated
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rehabilitation services, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
• Maintain accurate documentation in Epic and support safe transitions of care
