Job Description

Job Title: CT Tech Profession: Imaging Specialty: Computed Tomography Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in Radiology required, less than 1 year experience in CT preferred License: ARRT Radiography, ARRT Computed Tomography Certifications: Basic Life Support Must-Have: Excellent communication skills Ability to function independently and under pressure Detail-oriented with multitasking capability Competent in all aspects of CT, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection Description: Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in utilizing equipment for diagnosis and/or treatment. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for procedures. Verifies proper clinician orders for procedures. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media to ensure patient safety and comfort. Ensures that all studies have proper patient identification and the appropriate marking is utilized. Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and assists in maintaining life support equipment. Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed. Observes patient condition and evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary. Verifies correct identity of patients using two unique identifiers prior to performing procedures. Ensures patient privacy and comfort are accommodated and maintains patient dignity throughout exams. Demonstrates competence in the determination and application of appropriate procedures and techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedule and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. Demonstrates proficiency with loading and operating power injection. Uses critical thinking skills, engages with patients and families, and asks clarifying questions. Understands and documents preprocedural verification and timeout processes when appropriate. Demonstrates and understands pre- and post-procedural care. Prepares the patient for procedures and maintains competency in venipuncture. Adjusts techniques to ensure patients receive the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality. Reports malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor or service provider for timely resolution. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment according to infection control policies. Patiently explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation. Addresses patients' questions, concerns, or contraindications and notifies physicians when issues cannot be resolved. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. Provides patients with preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures. Ensures all documentation is concise, legible, and uses precise terminology. Reads emails daily and follows through with assignments. Completes mandatory departmental and hospital-wide education without prompting. Produces acceptable images as evidenced by feedback and quality audits. Checks equipment for proper calibration and operational deficiencies prior to use. Ensures that all studies are sent immediately after completion. Maintains department cleanliness and restocks supplies. Transports and positions patients, helping them on and off procedure tables. Performs patient charging activities on the day service is rendered. Applies shielding, supportive, and immobilization devices as needed. Offers knowledge and assistance to others when required and uses working time for department advantage. Performs clerical and support duties when necessary to ensure continuity and quality of services. Informs the supervisor on all responsibilities and notifies of any problems. Maintains an individual productivity rate equal to other coworkers. Operates all workstations associated with the department. Monitors and maintains compliance with applicable standards. Participates in on-call duties when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and established practices of the department and professional standards.
