They administer contrast materials, prepare and operate the CT scan equipment, and position patients to capture the appropriate images. This role requires the ability to maneuver both equipment and patients, which may pose physical challenges. CT scanners emit radiation, so following safety procedures is crucial to protect both the technologist and the patient. Maintaining a clean and safe environment is essential. Responding promptly to emergency situations is required. CT technologists must ensure compliance with regulations for accreditation and licensure. All technologists with direct patient contact must engage in monitoring and enforcing hand hygiene compliance. CT technologists operate diagnostic CT processing and printing equipment, ensuring the final images meet quality standards. Technical skills are necessary to select proper equipment settings and positioning techniques for each procedure. They assess patients for optimum exposure techniques and take appropriate precautions for women of childbearing age regarding radiation exposure. Documentation is essential, including reviewing physician orders for accuracy prior to starting examinations. They coordinate with central scheduling to ensure timely exam completion and patient flow. Proper procedures for contrast injection and image quality are required to enhance diagnostic value. A safe environment for patients involves ensuring accessibility to assistive devices and preventing hazards. Sensitivity towards elderly patients, including verifying communication effectiveness, is vital.
