Job Title: CT Scan Technologist Profession: CT Scan Technologist Specialty: - Duration: 15 Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: At least 2 years of CT experience (5 preferred) License: Diagnostic Radiography License Certifications: ARRT Certified R.T.(R), American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Must-Have: - Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning of the human body. - Understanding mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware. - Thorough knowledge of PACS system. - Ability to work in a busy environment and keep the workflow moving. Description: The CT Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation and assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures. Performs complex CT procedures. Uses professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining patient clinical history for procedures, ensuring information is documented and scanned into PACS. Prepares, screens, and reviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient and/or family member and scans into the electronic medical record system. Identifies and/or administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. Reviews the patient prescription to verify appropriateness of exams and if incorrect, communicates with the Radiologist and Referring Physician for additional clinical information or a new prescription. Responsible for calling physicians to clarify prescriptions in accordance with appropriate CT protocols. Responsible for verifying insurance authorized exam scripts and sending exam modification forms for insurance re-verification. Responsible for obtaining outside studies and scheduling them so that they are available for comparison by Radiologists. Responsible for providing exam copies to the patient and requesting physician and/or family member. Evaluates radiographs using the PACS system to ensure they contain proper identification and are of diagnostic value. Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information from medical records, significant others, and healthcare providers to prepare protocols for scanning and patient safety. Determines whether the patient has been appropriately prepared for the procedure. Preps the patient for scanning, including shielding and immobilization devices. Determines the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered. Provides accurate explanations and instructions at appropriate times at a level the patient can understand. Addresses and documents patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure when appropriate. Performs venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines. Monitors the patient’s physical condition for any adverse reactions during the procedure. Responsible for scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends. Adheres to the standards of behavior, attendance, and punctuality. Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands for a minimum of 6 hours a day. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care specific to those needs. This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level. Adheres to the standards identified in the organization’s competencies and standards of behavior. Team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification within twelve months following the hire date. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within three months of hire date.
