Job Title: CT Scan Technologist Profession: CT Scan Technologist Specialty: - Duration: 10 weeks Shift: 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of CT experience on Siemens Equipment License: NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License Certifications: ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license required, American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Must-Have: Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning of the human body. Understanding mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware. Thorough knowledge of PACS system. Team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification within twelve months following hire date. Description: The CT Scan Technologist performs computerized tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation. The technologist assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures. They perform complex CT procedures. The technologist uses professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining patient clinical history for procedures, ensuring information is documented and scanned into the system. They prepare, screen, and review the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient or family member and scan it into the system. The technologist identifies and/or administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. They review patient prescriptions to verify the appropriateness of the exam and, if incorrect, communicate with the radiologist and referring physician to obtain additional clinical information or a new prescription. They are responsible for clarifying prescriptions in accordance with appropriate CT protocols. The technologist verifies insurance authorization for exam scripts and sends exam modification forms for insurance re-verification. They obtain outside studies (CD) and schedule them in the system, ensuring availability for comparison by radiologists. The technologist provides exam copies to patients and requesting physicians or family members. They evaluate radiographs using the PACS system to ensure they contain proper identification and are of diagnostic value. The technologist gathers relevant information from medical records and health care providers to prepare protocols for scanning and patient safety. They determine whether patients have been appropriately prepared for procedures and prep patients for scanning, including shielding and immobilization. The technologist determines the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered. They provide accurate explanations and instructions at a level the patient can understand and address patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure. The technologist performs venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines. They monitor patients’ physical condition for any adverse reactions during procedures. The technologist is responsible for scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends. They may be required to work overtime to provide quality patient care and to be available for on-call assignments as needed. The technologist adheres to the policy of employee identification, standards of behavior, attendance, and punctuality. They may need to lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand for a minimum of 6 hours a day. The technologist identifies and addresses the needs of the patient population served, modifying and delivering care specific to those needs. They communicate with patients, parents, and caregivers at their level. The technologist adheres to standards identified in organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
