Job Title: CT Scan Technologist Profession: Allied Health Specialty: Computed Tomography Duration: 10 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years of CT experience on Siemens Equipment License: NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License, ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license required Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Must-Have: - Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning of the human body - Understanding of mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware - Thorough knowledge of PACS system - Ability to achieve ARRT (CT) certification within twelve months of hire date - American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within three months of hire date Description: The CT Scan Technologist performs computed tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation. This position assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures. The technologist performs complex CT procedures. Professional judgment is used when reviewing and obtaining patient clinical history for procedures, ensuring information is documented and scanned. The technologist prepares, screens, and reviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with patients and/or family members. They identify and/or administer contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed. Patient prescriptions are reviewed to verify the appropriateness of the exam and if incorrect, the technologist communicates with both the Radiologist and Referring Physician to obtain additional clinical information. This position involves calling physicians to clarify prescriptions in accordance with appropriate CT protocols. The technologist is responsible for verifying insurance authorized exam scripts and sending exam modification forms for insurance re-verification. Obtaining outside studies and scheduling them is also required so the CD and reports are available for comparison by Radiologists. The technologist provides exam copies to patients and requesting physicians and/or family members. Evaluating radiographs using the PACS System ensures they contain proper identification and are of diagnostic value. Consistent and appropriate techniques are used to gather relevant information from the medical record and healthcare providers to prepare protocols for scanning and patient safety. The technologist determines whether the patient has been appropriately prepared for the procedure. Patient preparation for scanning includes shielding and immobilization devices. They determine the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered. Accurate explanations and instructions are provided to patients at a level they can understand. Patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure are addressed and documented when appropriate. The position requires performing venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines. Monitoring patient physical condition for any adverse reactions during procedures is also an essential responsibility. Scheduled shifts include holidays and weekends, with a potential for on-call assignments as needed. The technologist adheres to employee standards of behavior, attendance, and punctuality. The position requires lifting a minimum of 25 lbs and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs while standing for a minimum of 6 hours a day. Identifying and addressing the needs of the patient population served is crucial. Care delivery must be modified to meet specific patient needs, including age, culture, language, and physical impairments. This process includes effective communication with patients and caregivers at their level of understanding. Compliance with organizational competencies and standards of behavior is mandatory.
