Job Title: CT Scan Technologist Profession: CT Scan Technologist Specialty: - Duration: 10 weeks Shift: 3:30 PM - 11:00 PM Hours per Shift: 7.5 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of CT experience on Siemens Equipment License: NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License Certifications: ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license required; American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Must-Have: Team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification within twelve months of hire date. Description: The CT Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques. They produce sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation and assist with interventional and therapeutic procedures. Responsibilities include performing complex CT procedures. The technologist uses professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining the patient's clinical history for procedures. They ensure information is documented and scanned into the PACS. Preparation, screening, and reviewing the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient and/or family member are also required. The technologist identifies and/or administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. They review the patient prescription to verify the appropriateness of exams and communicate with the Radiologist and Referring Physician when necessary. Responsibilities include calling physicians to clarify prescriptions in accordance with appropriate CT protocols. The technologist verifies insurance authorized exam scripts and sends exam modification forms for insurance re-verification. They obtain outside studies and schedule them in the system to ensure availability for comparison by Radiologists. The technologist provides exam copies to patients and requesting physicians and/or family members. Evaluating radiographs using the PACS System is necessary to ensure diagnostic value. Consistent and appropriate techniques are used to gather relevant information to prepare protocols for scanning and patient safety. The collection of information is determined by patient needs or conditions. They ensure patients are appropriately prepared for procedures and prepare them for scanning, which includes shielding and immobilization. The appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered is determined by the technologist. Accurate explanations and instructions are provided at a level the patient can understand. They address and document patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure when appropriate. Venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures are performed according to established guidelines. The technologist monitors patients' physical conditions for any adverse reactions during procedures. They are responsible for scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends. The role requires lifting a minimum of 25 lbs., pushing and pulling a minimum of 50 lbs., and standing for a minimum of 6 hours a day. The technologist identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies care accordingly. Effective communication with patients, parents, and/or primary caregivers is essential. Adherence to organizational competencies and standards of behavior is required.
