Description:
The CT Scan Technologist performs computed tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation.
This role assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures.
The technologist performs complex CT procedures.
Professional judgment is used when reviewing and obtaining the patient's clinical history for procedures to ensure information is documented.
Preparing, screening, and reviewing the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient and/or family member is essential.
The technologist identifies and administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
Reviewing the patient prescription to verify the appropriateness of the exam is critical.
If incorrect, communication with the Radiologist and Referring Physician is necessary to obtain additional clinical information or a new prescription.
The technologist is responsible for clarifying the prescription in accordance with appropriate CT protocols.
Verifying insurance authorized exam scripts and sending exam modification forms for insurance re-verification is required.
Obtaining outside studies and scheduling them in the appropriate system is also a responsibility.
The technologist is tasked with providing exam copies to the patient and requesting physician or family member.
Evaluating radiographs using the PACS system ensures that radiographs contain proper identification and are of diagnostic value.
Consistent and appropriate techniques are utilized to gather relevant information from medical records, significant others, and healthcare providers to prepare protocols for scanning and patient safety.
The collection of information is determined by the patient’s needs or condition.
Determining whether the patient has been appropriately prepared for the procedure is essential.
Prepping the patient for scanning includes shielding and immobilization devices.
Determining the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered is part of the role.
Providing accurate explanations and instructions at any appropriate time and at a level the patient can understand is crucial.
Addressing and documenting patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure when appropriate is part of the responsibilities.
Performing venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines is required.
Monitoring the patient’s physical condition for any adverse reactions during the procedure is essential.
The technologist is responsible for scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends.
Adherence to policies regarding employee ID, standards of behavior, attendance, and punctuality is required.
Lifting a minimum of 25 lbs., pushing and pulling a minimum of 50 lbs., and standing for a minimum of 6 hours a day is necessary.
Identifying the needs of the patient population served and delivering care specific to those needs is essential.
This process includes effectively communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level.
Adherence to organizational competencies and standards of behavior is expected.
