Certifications: BLS, Registered in Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (CNCT) or Registered in Computed Tomography (CT) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required. Must-Have: Certificate of Completion from Radiologic Technology Program or College Diploma in Related Field. Description: Positions patients correctly, using proper immobilization techniques. Performs optimal scans using correct technical factors, shielding, and protocols based on patient diagnosis and history. Utilizes the lowest amount of radiation necessary for diagnostic scans in accordance with the American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines. Performs CT angiography, 3D, MIPS, VR, Vessel Analysis, and MPRs. Processes computer data to enhance exams for radiologist interpretation using appropriate reconstruction software. Follows correct CT Department Technologist workflow, selecting the correct scan room and documenting two forms of identification for each patient. Acquires history, verifies orders, scans patients, and sends images to PACS. Scans all paperwork and data sheets, completes cases in the electronic record system, and addresses quality assurance issues. Responsible for charging for contrast media and supplies. Verifies that all images and data sheets have been sent to PACS and ensures the accuracy of image counts. Operates support equipment for CT including independent workstations, pressure injectors, PACS, and electronic record systems. Initiates IV for the administration of contrast media, adhering to department policy and standard precautions. Prepares patients for exams by explaining procedures and answering questions. Transports patients to and from departments as necessary and assists with patient transfers onto and off the CT table. Continuously monitors patient condition during CT procedures. Collaborates with radiologists to tailor protocols to meet patient exam requirements. Refers difficult complaints or sensitive issues to department management. Accountable for documentation and charging for supplies used during exams or procedures. Documents confidential patient history to ensure appropriateness of exams and contrast media. Modifies and initiates charges as procedure modifications are made based on instructions from radiologists or ordering physicians. Documents any allergic reactions, IV extravasations, or unusual occurrences and initiates incident reports as needed. Maintains license and continues education as required. Administers contrast media after proper patient screening and ensures the correct exam is administered. Consults providers as necessary.
