Job Title: Radiologic Technologist/Mammographer Profession: Diagnostic Imaging Specialty: CT Technologist, Mammographer Duration: Full Time Shift: Days Hours per Shift: Guaranteed hours to be discussed Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Current ARRT in Radiography Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Must-Have: Clinical competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years Description: The Radiologic Technologist/Mammographer must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s needs. Essential functions include providing radiographic examinations of all body parts for diagnostic interpretation. Professional judgment must be exercised in the performance of procedures, applying principles of radiation protection. Responsibilities include performing diagnostic medical radiography within department and other areas. Maintaining patient records and files is essential. Assuming responsibility for the departmental quality assurance program is required. Continuing education is a key component of this role. Transferring patients to and from radiology is necessary. In the absence of a supervisor, assuming responsibility for the department is expected. Employees may rotate shifts as required. Performing ancillary duties as requested by the supervisor is part of the job. Adherence to policies and procedures set by the organization is mandatory. Assisting in the general hygiene of the department and personal hygiene is important. The individual should be able to work well in stressful situations. Willingness to take call and report to work within 20 minutes is required. The technologist must be willing to learn other imaging modalities as deemed fit. Competency in ancillary modalities must be maintained. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary. Mammography responsibilities include performing breast needle localization, specimen radiography, quality control, screening, diagnostic procedures, and stereotactic breast biopsy. Actively pursuing continuing education credits per required guidelines is expected. Documentation of performing a minimum number of mammograms per year is required. CT/Interventional responsibilities involve caring for equipment in this area and maintaining records. Assisting with invasive procedures and having knowledge of these procedures is necessary. Consulting with referring physicians is expected. Striving towards the goal of venipuncture is part of the job. Standard precautions procedures must be followed. Altering routine protocols to provide quality care across different age groups is important. Setting up and running the automatic injector is required. Familiarity with contraindications of contrast is necessary. Competence in tele-radiology transmission and sterile technique is expected. Assisting in supply inventory and ordering is important. Secondary functions include attending departmental meetings, in-services, and disaster drills as required.
