Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU Float Pool position in Asheville, NC, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and proficiency with advanced cardiac equipment and procedures.

Details

  • Night shift position, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, 12-hour shifts
  • 36 hours per week with alternating weekends
  • 13-week contract
  • CVICU setting in a 16-bed unit with RN-only staffing (no HUC or PCT support)
  • Patient ratios of 2:1 or 1:1, occasionally 3:1 depending on acuity
  • Float pool position — travelers float to all areas including step-down/progressive care and cath lab recovery
  • Procedures performed on unit include cardioversion, central line insertion, EGD, bronchoscopy, chest tube insertions, pericardiocentesis, and thoracentesis
  • Equipment used includes ventilators, telemetry, Baxter IV pumps, IABP, CRRT, Impella, and hypothermia equipment
  • Charting via Cerner (experience preferred)
  • Capable nurses for ECMO, LVAD, and cath lab recovery will be prioritized

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of assignment start)
  • NIHSS certification required for CVICU RNs
  • Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU or ICU experience required
  • Proficiency required in titration of vesicant medications, pressors, sedation, and paralytics
  • Experience required with mechanical ventilation and tracheostomy care
  • Telemetry interpretation skills required
  • Understanding of hemodynamics, PA catheter setup and interpretation required
  • CCRN certification recommended; IABP, Impella, and CRRT experience are a plus
  • US SSN and DOB required for consideration
  • One professional reference required (two required if currently residing in Florida or Missouri)
  • No gaps in work history of 90 days or more in the past 12 months

Additional Information

  • Orientation consists of a 4-hour hospital orientation followed by an 8-hour on-unit shift
  • Scrub color requirement: all navy, all white, or a combination of navy and white
  • Tobacco use is strictly prohibited on all campus properties, including personal vehicles in campus parking
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
  • No employment gaps of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
