Travel Registered Nurse (RN) - CVICU

Position Description

The traveler will be scheduled in accordance with facility policy and is expected to work every other weekend and holidays in rotation with hospital employees.

Unit Information

• Unit: ICU
• Number of Beds: 28 - mixed ICU
• Patient Ratios: 1:2, 1:3 (holding inpatient PCU/med-surg admissions)
• Staffing Description: RNs
• Type of Equipment: Mobile computer workstation on wheels; i-mobile phones for each care team member
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Scheduling Requirements: 3 - 12 hour shifts per week, inclusive of every other weekend
• Floating Policy: Travelers are the first to float; may be assigned to the emergency department or PCU to care for overflow patients.
• Patient Experience Requirements: Bedside shift report for patient handoff.

Qualifications

• Requested Skill Set: Minimum of 36 months RN experience, with at least one year in an ICU. One previous successful travel nursing assignment in a facility using Meditech is preferred.
• Must Have:
  • Ability to care for 1-3 CVICU patients and comfort managing ventilated patients.
  • Proficient in reading telemetry strips.
• Prior CVICU Experience: Preferred
• Advanced Skills Needed:
  • CRRT
  • Advanced Hemodynamics
  • Phlebotomy
  • Administering breathing treatments outside of the ICU (inhalers and nebulizers)
• Procedures Performed on Unit:
  • Post-op day 0 CABG (fresh heart from OR)
  • Impellas, balloon pumps, Swan Ganz catheters, and advanced hemodynamics
  • Neuro procedures, including aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, experience with EVDs, bolts (Codman), and Arctic Sun for induced hypothermia.
• Education: BSN preferred; Advanced Certifications preferred; TNCC certification preferred.

• ACLS
• NIH Stroke Scale

Additional Information

There are opportunities for training in Neuro ICU nursing or Cardiovascular ICU nursing, as well as with patients undergoing head and neck flap procedures. The unit boasts one of the 14 programs in the nation, enhancing its educational offerings.
