Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a CVICU position requiring 2 years of cardiovascular ICU experience and GA or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Work in a 10-bed cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) within a hospital setting
  • Care for adult to geriatric patients with LVADs, balloon pumps, swan catheters, temporary pacemakers, femoral and venous sheaths, arterial lines, TR bands, and patients on CRRT
  • Patients frequently include AAA repair post-op cases requiring extended flat positioning and close monitoring
  • Nurses typically carry 2 patients with a dedicated free charge nurse on each shift
  • Patient ratio of 1:1-2 with an average daily census of 7
  • Unit has an intensivist present Monday-Friday with multidisciplinary rounds daily at 10am
  • Titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips and manage sedation for intubated patients
  • Uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR systems
  • Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00am-7:00pm
  • Every other weekend required unless otherwise specified
  • Floating required within facility and scope of practice as needed
  • No on-call requirements

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
  • Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
  • Respiratory skills required including ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and BiPAP/CPAP management
  • Cardiovascular skills required including CVP monitoring, IABP management, sheath removal, and epicardial pacing wire care
  • Experience with CRRT/CVVHD and management of acute/chronic renal failure required
  • Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips and managing continuous IV sedation required
  • Cardiac monitoring skills required including dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and 12-lead EKG acquisition
  • First-time travelers are accepted for this position

Additional Information

  • Provide direct bedside care to cardiovascular ICU patients including those post-cardiac surgery and cardiac catheterization/intervention
  • Collaborate closely with intensivists and multidisciplinary care team during daily rounds
  • Effective communication with physicians and care team is essential, particularly for post-AAA repair patients
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Maximum RTO of 7 days per contract, with all RTO finalized prior to submission
  • RTO blackout dates apply during Spring Break (April 4th-12th)
  • Holiday coverage required based on number of major holidays falling within the assignment period (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day)
  • If one or two major holidays fall during the assignment, no holiday RTO can be requested
  • If three major holidays fall during the assignment, one holiday RTO request may be considered
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Previous Piedmont employees (perm/per diem/FCSS) must be away from all Piedmont facilities for one full year before applying as a traveler
