Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – CVICU Night Shift in Baltimore, Maryland

Travel RN Job Details

- Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week
- Shift: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Patient Population: Adult cardiovascular and critically ill patients
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Unit Size: Approximately 8 beds
- Float Requirement: Float to a comparable or lower-acuity cardiac unit as needed
- Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend
- Call Requirement: Four call shifts within a six-week schedule
- Charting System: Cerner
CVICU Registered Nurse Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent CVICU or comparable cardiovascular critical care experience
- At least 1 completed travel nursing assignment
- Current Registered Nurse license in Maryland or a valid compact license
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications
- Strong experience interpreting and managing cardiac dysrhythmias
- Experience caring for postoperative cardiac patients, including fresh postoperative cardiac surgery patients
- Current experience with ventilated patients, cardiac and vasoactive drips, temporary and transvenous pacemakers, chest tubes, and arterial lines
- Ability to successfully complete required cardiovascular rhythm interpretation testing
- Current flu vaccination required; exemptions are not available
- Two supervisory references, including one from the most recent assignment
- Requested time off (RTO) must be submitted with the application; no more than 7 days may be requested during the 13-week contract, and time off is not permitted during the first 2 weeks
CVICU RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive bedside nursing care for adult patients with complex cardiovascular and critical care needs
- Care for patients following CABG, valve repair or replacement, TAVR, cardioversion, and other structural heart or vascular procedures
- Admit and manage fresh postoperative cardiac patients, including postoperative day-one cardiac patients
- Interpret and manage dysrhythmias and obtain 12-lead EKGs as indicated
- Monitor arterial lines, pulmonary artery lines, central lines, intra-aortic balloon pumps, temporary pacemakers, and transvenous pacemakers
- Manage mechanical ventilation, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow oxygen, chest tubes, blood products, and emergency medications
- Titrate cardiac, vasoactive, and insulin infusions according to established protocols
- Assist with chest tube insertion and removal and provide post-procedure monitoring
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, IV teams, rapid response teams, and other interdisciplinary partners
- Maintain accurate documentation in Cerner and communicate patient status using SBAR and shift reports
- Float to an appropriate cardiac unit when needed while maintaining safe, evidence-based patient care
