Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a CVICU position requiring 2 years of CVICU experience and an active MD or Compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) of a hospital setting
  • 6-bed unit with an average daily census of 3-5 patients
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Rotating night/mid shifts, 3x12 hours from 19:00-07:30, with possible rotation to 11:00-23:00 based on unit needs
  • Common diagnoses include post-op cardiac surgery (CABG, MVR, AVR), cardiac surgery re-admissions/ICU bounce-backs, structural heart-TAVR, mitral clips, STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, and Inari procedures
  • Manages complex post-op cardiac patients including those with 2+ inotropic medications, hemodynamic instability, open chest, OHS/Impella, ECMO, CRRT, and IABP
  • Every third weekend required with additional weekend coverage possible based on unit needs
  • Holiday coverage required as scheduled
  • On-call requirement of 24-32 hours per rotating 6-week schedule
  • Floating required to MSICU as needed
  • Epic charting system experience required

Requirements

  • Active MD or Compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • BLS, ACLS, and CPI certifications required (AHA only for BLS/ACLS)
  • NIHSS, OCN, and TNCC certifications preferred
  • 2 years of CVICU experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted with CVICU experience
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Skills required include arterial line management, central line care, blood product administration, PICC line management, ventilator management, and CRRT/CVVHD
  • Experience with ECMO, IABP, Impella, and post cardiac surgery care required
  • Experience managing patients with multisystem organ dysfunction and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips required
  • Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to post-surgical cardiac patients including CABG, valve repair/replacement, and TAVR cases
  • Manage patients on ECMO, IABP, and Impella support with perfusionist and dialysis support on-site
  • Perform cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
  • Administer continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titrate cardiac/vasoactive drips
  • Utilize IV insulin protocols and manage patients with acute/chronic renal failure
  • Interpret arterial blood gases and manage ventilated, BiPAP/CPAP, and high flow nasal cannula patients
  • Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility to be eligible unless otherwise noted
  • Former staff must have a 12-month break before returning as a traveler
  • Return travelers must have at least a 6-month break from the health system before reapplying
  • Maximum RTO request of 7 days, with additional week required on new contracts for requests exceeding 4 consecutive days
  • One major holiday off during winter season may be accommodated per unit specifics
  • Travelers are expected to float within scope with no restrictions and are prioritized for floating assignments
  • One contract and one extension typically allowed before a 6-month break is required to return to the facility/unit
