Registered Nurse – CVICU

Shift: Day 3x12-Hour (07:30 – 20:00)
Schedule: Every Other Weekend
Patient Ratio: 1:2
Charting System: Epic (Preferred)
Float Required: Yes – PRN to IMC (1:3 ratio)
Call Requirement: None
Note: CVICU/Open Heart experience required.
Position Overview:
Provide specialized cardiovascular intensive care to critically ill adult patients recovering from cardiac surgery and advanced cardiac interventions while managing complex hemodynamic monitoring and life-support therapies.
Job duties:
- Provide comprehensive care for post-operative CABG, valve replacement, TAVR, and other cardiovascular surgery patients.
- Monitor and manage ventilated patients, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, FloTrac, IABP, Impella, and CRRT therapies.
- Titrate cardiac, vasoactive, sedation, and emergency medications based on hemodynamic status.
- Interpret cardiac rhythms, ABGs, and ECGs while responding to dysrhythmias and critical patient changes.
- Perform central line care, blood product administration, chest tube management, and maintain accurate patient documentation.
Requirements:
License: Active Maryland RN License or Compact RN License
Experience: Minimum 2 year of CVICU experience; First-time travelers accepted with 2 years of extensive CVICU/Open Heart experience.
Certifications: BLS, ACLS (AHA)
Other requirement: Comfortable floating within specialty, sister units, and lower acuity units as needed

Patient Ratios: 1:2; IMC float ratio 1:3
Patient Population: Adults, Geriatrics
Patient Diagnoses: Cardiac surgery (CABG, valve repair/replacement), CAD, STEMI, NSTEMI, AFib with RVR, cardiogenic shock, vascular bypasses, EVAR, and thoracic surgery (VATS).
