CVICU RN – Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity nursing care to adult cardiovascular surgical ICU patients.
• Care for pre-op and fresh post-op CABG patients, including recovery and extubation goals.
• Manage patients with LVADs, Impella, IABP, TAVR, and CRRT (NxStage) experience as applicable.
• Monitor and manage critical care drips and complex cardiovascular conditions.
• Perform Swan-Ganz/hemodynamic monitoring and interpret patient trends.
• Provide ventilator management and collaborate with 24/7 Respiratory Therapy.
• Perform continuous cardiac monitoring and interpret EKG/telemetry strips.
• Follow established critical-care pathways and unit protocols.
• Monitor patients closely for changes in condition and respond promptly to deterioration.
• Collaborate with intensivists/hospitalists, physicians, RT, pharmacy, IV teams, and other disciplines.
• Safely administer medications, blood products, IV therapies, and critical-care interventions.
• Provide comprehensive post-operative assessment and management.
• Participate in bedside report and maintain accurate Cerner documentation.
• Work collaboratively in a 1:1–2 patient ratio environment.
• Float to other Sacramento facilities as required; mid-shift floating may occasionally occur.
• Participate in weekend and holiday rotation.
• Provide break relief when functioning as/assigned to charge nurse.
• Follow all facility safety, infection-control, and patient-care protocols.

Requirements Minimum 2 full years of CVICU experience – Required At least 1 completed travel assignment – Required BLS – Required ACLS – Required NIHSS – Required Active nursing license required for submission Cerner experience Strong cardiovascular critical-care experience with high-acuity patients. Must be comfortable with 1:1–2 ratios. Must be able to interpret EKG/telemetry strips. Ventilator experience required. Experience with critical drips and complex ICU patients. Candidates should be proactive and comfortable asking for assistance when needed. Must be able to work all assigned cases; special scheduling/case accommodations are not available. First to Float — must be willing to float to other Sacramento facilities. Every other weekend. Holiday rotation with core staff. Navy scrubs; undershirts must be navy, white, or black. 36 guaranteed hours/week Night shift: 5:45 PM start Travelers will not take LVAD patients; core staff will validate CABG recovery, IABP, and CRRT skills.
