Job Description

The Cardiac Specialty RN provides perioperative nursing care for pediatric and adult congenital cardiac patients undergoing complex cardiac procedures. The RN prepares and manages the operating room, supports cardiac surgical procedures, maintains sterile technique and patient safety standards, and collaborates with cardiac surgeons, anesthesia, perfusion, and the multidisciplinary surgical team.

Responsibilities

• Perform scrub and/or circulating duties for complex cardiac procedures.
• Prepare the OR and ensure cardiac instruments, equipment, implants, and supplies are available.
• Support procedures involving cardiopulmonary bypass and coordinate with perfusion.
• Maintain sterile technique, surgical counts, time-outs, and accurate documentation.
• Anticipate intraoperative needs and respond appropriately during complex or emergent cases.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, perfusion, surgical technologists, and nursing staff.
• Support quality improvement, infection prevention, and patient safety initiatives.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Perioperative nursing experience required.
• Cardiac surgery experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with complex cardiac procedures and cardiopulmonary bypass preferred.
• Active Florida RN license or multistate eNLC license in good standing.
• AHA BLS required.
• AHA PALS required.
• Must be available to participate in the alternating 1st-call and 2nd-call rotation.
• Pediatric, congenital, or adult congenital cardiac experience preferred.
• CNOR, CPN, or equivalent certification preferred.
