Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a CVOR position requiring the ability to scrub and circulate adult open-heart cases, active IL RN license, and EPIC experience.

Details

  • Trauma Center, Magnet-designated hospital setting within the Surgery Room/OR department
  • Unit includes 28 beds with 2 hybrid rooms for CV/Vascular procedures
  • Approximately 60-75 cases per day, with the hybrid room handling 5-10 cases daily
  • Patient population includes outpatient, inpatient, and trauma cases across general, GYN, urology, robotics, vascular, ortho, neuro, and open-heart/CABG procedures
  • Approximately 20% pediatric cases (open hearts, appendectomy, cholecystectomy)
  • No liver or lung transplant cases performed
  • Participates in Gifts of Hope organ donation cases
  • 10-hour day shift schedule from 6:45am to 5:15pm, with additional shift options including 8-hour and 12-hour rotations
  • OR operates 24/7, 365 days a year with skeleton crew coverage for trauma/urgent cases after standard hours
  • Weekend rotation required every 4th weekend (Saturday-Sunday)
  • Schedule is rotation-based with no self-scheduling; staff assigned based on need
  • 6-week schedule provided 2-4 weeks in advance
  • On-call required with dependency on shift/service line, 30-minute response time, and sleeping room available
  • Must take one full weekend of call per month (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) and one weekday call, totaling approximately 125 call hours per month
  • No floating required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2-3 years of acute care experience required
  • Ability to scrub and circulate adult open-heart cases required
  • Critical care experience required
  • Level 1 trauma experience required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core CVOR experience within the last year required
  • At least one professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
  • Candidate's middle name/initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Scrub and circulate for a variety of surgical cases including trauma, transplant, cardiac, vascular, and pediatric procedures
  • Work alongside a support team including charge nurses, resource nurses, anesthesiologists, surgeons, ANM, educators, service line reps, and an EPIC super-user
  • Charge nurse does not carry a patient assignment Monday-Friday but assists on weekends and evenings
  • Orientation includes meeting educators and ANM, gaining system login access, completing online modules, and EPIC training on day one, followed by 2-3 days of unit orientation
  • Holiday coverage required, including one summer and one winter holiday
  • Scrubs provided by the facility
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate with no radius restrictions
  • Former Advocate Health employees or subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignment
