Participates in patient education. Trains dental hygiene students with minimal supervision. May require access to storage areas where medications are kept. Carries out procedures that require the use of medications. Removes hard and soft deposits and stains from the surfaces of teeth. Polishes all surfaces of teeth. Applies topical fluoride to the teeth. Exposes and develops radiographs. Gives oral hygiene instruction and counseling. Provides nutrition and dietary counseling. Makes and confirms appointments. Reviews medical and dental health history. Takes and records blood pressure. Charts dental disease. Utilizes charting systems for documentation and charge entry.
