Job Title: Echocardiographer Profession: Clinical-Allied Specialty: - Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Monday - Friday Hours per Shift: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Registered Cardiac Sonographer or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Certification. Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification within 30 days of hire. Must-Have: Familiarity with computers, hemodynamic monitoring, and sterile operative techniques. Description: The Echocardiographer is responsible for performing cardiac ultrasound procedures. He/she assists a trained and credentialed cardiology attending during stress echocardiogram and TEE procedures. The position requires complete knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. The Echocardiographer performs echocardiograms including 2-D M-Mode, color flow imaging, stress echo, TEE, and Doppler studies. Knowledge of strain and 3D echocardiography is essential. The Echocardiographer obtains patient history and performs procedures as ordered. They help patients onto and off the bed. The Echocardiographer notifies the supervisor in cases of acute or life-threatening abnormalities. Abnormal studies must be communicated directly to the cardiologist. Digital acquisition and storage of echo studies for physician interpretation must be obtained. The Echocardiographer transports equipment to the patient's room for bedside studies. They calibrate, clean, and maintain equipment, and report breakdowns and supply needs. Completing and processing billing charge requisitions, log books, worksheets, and reports is required. The Echocardiographer cleans and prepares the room for the next patient. Maintaining a clean and safe environment is critical. They demonstrate knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques and principles of isolation according to policy and procedure. Identifying the needs of the patient population served is essential to modifying and delivering care specific to those needs. This includes communication with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver at their level. The Echocardiographer adheres to the accrediting standards and those identified in the Organizational Competencies. Assisting in training of new employees in the cost center may be required. Participation in performance improvement initiatives and monitoring is encouraged. Other tasks as assigned may be performed.
