Job Title: Echocardiographer Profession: Clinical-Allied Specialty: Cardiology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum of 1 year clinical echocardiography experience preferred. License: Registered Cardiac Sonographer or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Certification. Certifications: Maintains Basic Life Support Certification within 30 days of hire. Must-Have: Experience in Vascular testing. Description: The Echocardiographer is responsible for performing cardiac ultrasound procedures. He/she assists a trained, credentialed cardiology attending during stress echocardiogram and TEE procedures. The position requires complete knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Responsibilities include performing echocardiograms including 2-D M-Mode, color flow imaging, stress echo, TEE, and Doppler studies. Knowledge of strain and 3D echocardiography is essential. The Echocardiographer obtains patient history and performs procedures as ordered. He/she helps patients onto and off the bed. In cases of acute or life-threatening abnormalities, the Echocardiographer notifies the supervisor. Abnormal studies must be communicated directly to the cardiologist. The role also involves obtaining digital acquisition and storage of echo studies for physician interpretation. He/she transports equipment to the patient's room for bedside studies. Calibration, cleaning, and maintenance of equipment is required, as well as reporting any breakdowns and supply needs. The Echocardiographer completes and processes charge requisition, log books, worksheets, and reports. He/she cleans and prepares the room for the next patient while maintaining a clean and safe environment. Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques and principles of isolation according to policy and procedure is important. The position requires identifying the needs of the patient population served and modifying care specific to those needs, including age, culture, language, and disabilities. Effective communication with patients, parents, and/or primary caregivers at appropriate developmental and educational levels is critical. Adherence to accreditation standards and organizational competencies is expected. Participation in the training of new employees is also a responsibility of this role. The Echocardiographer engages in performance improvement initiatives and monitoring. Other tasks may be assigned as needed.
