Job Title: Echo Tech Profession: Clinical-Allied Specialty: Cardiology Non-Invasive Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours (Monday-Friday) Experience: Minimum three (3) years of applicable experience License: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) in Echocardiography Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: - Knowledge of patient positioning, breathing techniques, and transducer positioning - Proficient in recognizing abnormalities in structure and function - Ability to distinguish normal from abnormal findings - Understanding of imaging artifacts - Knowledge of gross and sectional anatomy - Proficient in reading, writing, comprehending, and speaking fluent English - Basic computer knowledge, including word processing, spreadsheets, and email Description: To provide high-quality ultrasound images of the heart and great vessels for adult patients. Provide technical assistance with exercise and non-exercise stress testing. Handle other duties as required or assigned. Perform high-quality two-dimensional ultrasound studies of the heart and great vessels. Identify EKG abnormalities and/or arrhythmias. Utilize knowledge of age-specific needs of patients in performance of everyday duties. Understand complementary imaging and/or Doppler techniques for specific clinical questions. Demonstrate the use of M-Mode technique for measuring cardiac dimensions. Estimate the severity of valvular insufficiencies using color flow Doppler. Assess blood flow through the heart, including increased velocities, stenosis, and regurgitation. Use contrast echocardiography when two-dimensional and color flow are suboptimal. Evaluate left and right ventricular systolic and diastolic functions and document abnormalities. Recognize congenital heart malformations, acquired pathologies, and outcomes of surgical procedures. Complete studies according to updated protocols and present additional views or calculations when necessary. Correlate clinical history with exam to be performed and consult with the cardiologist for clarification. Monitor, record, charge, and communicate appropriately using computerized documentation systems. Prepare, instruct, assist patients, and produce images for dobutamine and exercise stress echocardiograms. Assist the cardiologist in performing transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE). Communicate results to the cardiologist and respond to questions in a timely manner. Maintain monthly correlation studies and statistics. Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot and report equipment failures. Participate in mobile echo/vascular services regionally. Participate in callback rotation. Assist in performing functional, pharmacological cardiolite, and echocardiography stress testing. Document procedures correctly. Accurately assess patients' physical ability to perform tests. Interpret and clarify physician's orders. Provide thorough assessments of a patient in crisis and notify the physician when necessary. Display proficiency in recognizing lethal arrhythmias. Complete quarterly competency in stress lab, Holter monitoring, and event monitoring. Use a segmental approach while obtaining images of cardiac structures in various echocardiographic windows. Operate ultrasound equipment and understand controls affecting data quality. Select appropriate transducers for optimal resolution and adequate penetration. Obtain, review, and document pertinent patient history and clinical data to facilitate diagnostic results. Demonstrate proficiency in conducting pediatric echocardiograms ensuring high-quality imaging and patient care.
