Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN ECMO Specialist for a pediatric hospital assignment requiring at least 1 year of ECMO experience and the ability to independently manage the pump.

Details

  • Work as an ECMO Specialist within a children's hospital setting
  • Float between CTICU, PICU, and NICU wherever ECMO patients are located
  • 3x12 hour variable shifts, must be flexible to work both day (7:00-19:00) and night (19:00-7:00) shifts
  • Must be available to work weekends with full scheduling flexibility
  • No on-call requirements
  • EMR: Epic charting system used

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required (in hand, or an ETA from licensing accepted)
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of ECMO experience required, including ability to independently manage the extracorporeal circuit and 'sit the pump' (not just bedside care)
  • Adult ECMO experience with solid training may be considered in lieu of pediatric experience
  • 2 years of pediatric ICU nursing experience preferred
  • Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, ABG interpretation, ETT/NT suctioning, continuous IV sedation, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, and cardiac monitoring/dysrhythmia management
  • SSN and accurate DOB required for facility system access

Additional Information

  • Monitor and adjust the extracorporeal circuit to ensure adequate organ perfusion and oxygenation
  • Troubleshoot and replace malfunctioning ECMO circuit components, including in emergent situations
  • Administer fluids and blood products via the extracorporeal circuit under physician direction
  • Monitor and maintain anti-coagulation per ordered guidelines
  • Assist with progressive mobility for ECMO patients
  • Facility is a Magnet-recognized, Level 1 trauma teaching hospital with Beacon Award Excellence, named a Top 10 Children's Hospital by U.S. News & World Report
  • Scrubs of any color permitted
  • Maximum RTO of 6 days
  • Required to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
  • Former permanent staff must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible to travel
  • Travelers who complete a full year at this facility or its sister facility must wait 90 days before returning as a traveler
