Registered Nurse (RN) - Telemetry

Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Telemetry unit provides critical care to patients primarily dealing with cardiac issues. This position requires a strong background in telemetry nursing and involves monitoring patients, titrating medications, and collaborating with healthcare teams to deliver high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess patients who are being transferred from the Emergency Department and awaiting bed placement.
• Titrate medication drips according to physician orders and established parameters, including Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone.
• Read and interpret cardiac rhythms; no monitor tech in the unit, so RNs must possess this skill.
• Provide vital signs, initiate IV access, and assist with medication administration as needed.
• Float between medical surgical, telemetry, and overflow units as required.

Work Schedule

Shifts are 12 hours long (either 7 AM - 7 PM or 7 PM - 7 AM). The position allows some self-scheduling; however, this is subject to change. There is a requirement to work at least four weekend shifts within a four-week schedule and participate in shift rotation during major holidays.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of recent telemetry nursing experience within the past 6 months.
• Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS - AHA or APEX.
• Able to pass a dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of receiving an offer, with a maximum of two attempts.
• Participation in a PASS/FAIL simulation lab on the first day of orientation.

Additional Information

Nurses will primarily care for telemetry patients, with limited interaction as primary RNs for emergency department assignments. The role may include assisting with general clinical duties as needed.
