Travel Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift Contract in Upper Marlboro, Maryland

Travel ER RN needed for a 13-week emergency nursing contract in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Join a high-volume, 46-bed emergency department and provide quality care to patients of all ages in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

This dynamic emergency department serves approximately 140 patients daily, including neonates, pediatric patients, adults, and geriatric patients. The Travel Emergency Room Registered Nurse will care for diverse medical, trauma, cardiac, respiratory, and behavioral health presentations while collaborating with an experienced interdisciplinary team.

Located in Prince George’s County, Upper Marlboro offers a welcoming community with convenient access to Washington, D.C., Baltimore, local parks, historic sites, dining, and entertainment.

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Shift Hours: 7:30 p.m. – 8:00 a.m.

• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Holidays as scheduled
• Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4, with up to 1:5 for lower-acuity patient assignments
• On-Call: Not required
• Floating: Within the emergency department specialty, including ED border assignments as needed

Travel ER Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Maryland or Compact Registered Nurse license at the time of submission
• At least 3 years of emergency department nursing experience
• Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers may be considered with 5 or more years of relevant emergency nursing experience
• Epic electronic medical record charting experience required
• Level II trauma experience required; Level I trauma experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications through the American Heart Association
• Current PALS, NIHSS, CPI, and TNCC certifications
• Strong patient assessment, emergency triage, critical-thinking, and rapid-response skills
• Ability to care for patients across the lifespan, including pediatric and neonatal populations
• Ability to float within scope of practice and adapt to changing emergency department patient-care needs

Emergency Room Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care for patients with a wide range of acuity levels
• Perform rapid patient assessments, emergency triage, reassessments, and prioritization of care
• Care for patients experiencing chest pain, stroke, sepsis, cardiac arrest, trauma, respiratory illness, and respiratory arrest
• Manage patients requiring ventilatory support, procedural sedation, emergency medications, IV insulin, vasopressors, blood products, and cardiac monitoring
• Support emergency and trauma care, including management of chest tubes, central lines, arterial lines, splints, and other emergency interventions
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, including dysrhythmias, neurological emergencies, and multisystem organ dysfunction
• Provide safe, compassionate care for patients with behavioral health concerns, psychiatric holds, or suicidal ideation
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, rapid response teams, IV services, and other interdisciplinary healthcare partners
• Document patient assessments, nursing interventions, and outcomes accurately in Epic
• Educate patients and families while maintaining a calm, respectful, and patient-centered environment
