Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department position at a Level I Trauma, Children's, and Teaching Hospital in New Mexico, requiring TNCC prior to consideration and a NM or compact RN license.

Details

• Work setting is a 554-bed Level I Trauma Center, Children's Hospital, and academic teaching hospital in New Mexico
• Emergency Department unit with a high volume of admitted/hold patients — approximately 60–80% of the ED consists of admitted patients, with many rooms functioning as ED Holding
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• Night shift, 7p–7:30a (3x12-hour shifts), with 36 or 48-hour weekly schedules available
• Weekend scheduling is required as needed; weekend nights are considered Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Floating to Adult PCUs is an expectation based on staffing needs; floating to Peds ED is optional; potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma as well
• No on-call requirement
• Charting system is Cerner (experience preferred)
• Block scheduling is not available

Requirements

• Active NM or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of submission)
• Minimum 2 years of ED RN experience required; candidates with 1.5 years may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis
• Level II Trauma experience required; Level I Trauma experience strongly preferred
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC (must be obtained prior to submission), and NIHSS (may be pending until compliance due date)
• RQI certifications are not accepted
• Preferred skills include: IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, blood product administration, continuous IV sedation, IV vasopressors, procedural sedation, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, triage, and trauma/resuscitation experience
• Preferred neurological experience: CVA, neuro-trauma, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury
• Non-local driver's license required on file
• Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

• Primary responsibilities include care of admitted/hold patients in the ED, medication administration via the seven rights (including IV medications), and documentation and communication of clinical findings
• Travel experience is strongly preferred; first-time travelers may be considered if they have 2+ years of Level I Trauma experience
• RTO exceeding 7 days requires facility approval; no RTO during the first 7 days or last day of the contract; 1 holiday of coverage is preferred
• Travelers who have worked 4 consecutive assignments or reached a 1-year mark with this health system are required to take a 6-month break before returning
• Former permanent staff must have a 12-month separation before being eligible
• COVID vaccination is optional; vaccine status will be reported to the facility
• Scrub color is black; scrubs are not provided
• Free on-site parking is available
• 13-week contract length (minimum 10 weeks for new contracts and extensions)
