General Information

We are seeking a qualified Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) to join our team at a Level II Trauma Center with a Level IV NICU located in a dynamic healthcare environment. This facility has 60 beds, including 21 inpatient holding, 2 psychiatric rooms, and 14 hall spaces, with an average daily patient volume of 140-150.

Patient Types

The ED serves a diverse range of patients, including:

• Pediatrics to geriatrics
• Trauma
• Gunshot wounds (GSW)
• Sepsis
• COVID-19
• STEMI
• Stroke
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Mental health issues
• Adult psychiatric care
• Respiratory issues
• Chest pain

Patient Ratios

The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, which may flex to 1:5 for lower acuity patients.

Required Certifications

Candidates must hold the following certifications:

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• CPI/MOAB (Crisis Prevention Institute/Management of Aggressive Behavior)
• Traveler Competency Exam

Skills Required

Qualified candidates should possess strong general emergency department experience, including:

• Cardiac rhythm interpretation
• IV skills
• Knowledge of drips and medication administration
• Procedural sedation
• Blood administration
• Administration of cardiac medications

Support on the Unit

Your work will be supported by:

• Emergency Room Technicians for glucose checks and assisting with splinting
• A charge nurse who rarely takes an assignment
• A resource/float nurse (pending staffing)
• Registered Respiratory Therapists available 24/7
• An ED educator for training and development
• Security personnel for safety 24/7
• House Supervisor on-site 24/7
• Pharmacy support available 24/7 for assistance in codes

Charting System and Equipment

The facility utilizes the following systems and equipment:

• Electronic Medical Records (EMR): Epic
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication dispensing system: Pyxis
• Telemetry monitoring with both central and bedside systems at the nursing station (no telemetry technician)

Orientation

New hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation process, which includes:

• First Day: NEO (badge issuance and Epic training as needed), meet with educator
• 3-4 shifts (12 hours each) with a preceptor on your assigned shift
• Completion of the Traveler Telemetry Competency exam prior to starting

Scheduling

Shifts available include:

• Day: 0700 - 1900 or 0900 - 2100
• Mids: 1100 - 2300 or 1300 - 0100
• Evening/Night: 1500 - 0300 or 1900 - 0700

Staff members will typically work a six-week block of the same shift. Weekend rotation is every other weekend, and up to 5 days off can be approved. Holiday expectations include working 3 out
