Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

The Emergency Room (ER) Registered Nurse will provide high-quality nursing care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. This role involves working in a Level I Trauma Center with diverse patient populations, including trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, and strokes. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Emergency Room (ER)
• Department: ER
• Bed Capacity: 20 beds, including 5 Trauma, 10 Observation beds, and hallway beds
• Fast Track Availability: Yes, with 6 beds
• Triage Area: 3 triage beds
• Security: In-house 24/7 within the ER
• Patient Ratios:
  • 1:4 in Zones
  • 1:6 in Fast Track
  • 1:5 in Observation
  • 1:1 in ICU/Trauma
• Common Diagnoses: Trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, stroke (TPA)
• ED Staff: ED Physicians and Mid-level providers are present
• Charge Nurse: Available on each shift
• Nurse Aids/Patient Sitters: Yes, with a ratio of 1:10 in Observation and 1:20 in main ED
• Telemetry/Monitor Techs: Present; RNs are required to interpret their own strips

Shift Details

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Shift Timing: 0700-1900, 0900-2100, 1100-2300, 1500-0300, 1900-0700
• Weekend Requirements: Varies based on departmental needs
• Holiday Requirements: Varies based on departmental needs
• Floating Requirements: May float to Observation unit and freestanding ER at least once a week

Orientation

New hires will undergo one week of onboarding, including two shifts at a designated location and one shift at another facility. RN's will be required to pass an open book exam on skills learned during orientation, and a minimum score of 90% is required to pass.

Qualifications

• Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a relevant emergency room setting
• Required Certifications:
  • ACLS
  • BLS Certification
  • NIHSS
  • PALS
  • TNCC
  • NRP Preferred
• Driver's License: Required at the time of submission to confirm eligibility based on location
• Fingernail Policy: Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; non-compliance may result in contract termination
