Description

American Traveler is hiring a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department RN for a 13-week evening shift assignment requiring at least 2 years of ED experience and multiple specialty certifications.

Details

• Work in a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department within an acute care hospital setting
• 65-bed unit with all private rooms and 2 dedicated trauma bays
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5 based on patient acuity and department needs
• Care for a wide variety of patients from newborns to the elderly, including critically ill patients, cardiac arrest, strokes, and heart attacks
• Level 1/2 trauma patients are managed by a specialized trauma team, though travelers may care for stabilized trauma patients once transferred to a pod
• Perform titration of various drips including vasopressors, cardiac drips, and antihypertensive medications
• Minimum of 3 attending physicians staffed at all times, with mid-level coverage varying by shift
• 2 charge nurses per shift plus 24/7 house supervisor support
• ED techs available with a 1:9 ratio
• Respiratory therapists assist with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow equipment
• Monitor tech available, but RNs are expected to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms using Phillips monitors
• Radiology staff or transport handle X-Ray and CT transport
• Nurses and techs draw labs, with phlebotomy assisting for boarders
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour evening shifts, 1p-1a, non-rotating
• Every other weekend rotation required (Sat/Sun for most shifts, Fri/Sat for 7a-7p shift)
• Holiday coverage required every other holiday or per department needs, negotiable based on contract
• No call or standby requirements for travelers
• Rare floating possible to other units in a 'help all' capacity only, not as primary team nurse
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week with 12 hours of non-billable orientation

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of submission
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
• At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC or TNS
• SANE RN experience preferred
• Experience at a teaching hospital with residents preferred
• Must be proficient in vasopressor and cardiac drip titration
• Must be able to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms
• Must pass a negative drug screen for all panels as OSF is a Drug-Free Campus

• Provide comprehensive emergency care to a diverse patient population ranging from minor complaints to critical, life-threatening conditions
• Support trauma team by caring for stabilized trauma patients once transferred from trauma bay to a pod
• Scrubs may be any tasteful color with solid colored shirts underneath
• Local rate applies to candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
• No radius rule restricting eligibility for the position
• First-time travelers may be considered, though prior travel experience is preferred
