The RN will work in Emergency Department caring for patients ranging from routine/non-critical cases to serious, life-threatening emergencies.

The ED also handles urgent and emergent behavioral/mental-health patients, so the nurse should be comfortable caring for a broad patient population.

A major requirement is that the RN must be able to care for critical cardiac and trauma patients, including pediatric patients.

Job Responsibilities

Emergency Department RN responsibilities include:

• Provide nursing care to patients presenting with non-critical, urgent, and emergent medical conditions.
• Assess patients, identify changes in condition, and prioritize care according to the severity of illness.
• Care for critical cardiac and trauma patients.
• Provide emergency care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and older adult patients as appropriate.
• Manage patients requiring urgent or emergent mental-health/behavioral-health care.
• Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, symptoms, and overall patient condition.
• Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and hospital protocols.
• Initiate and assist with emergency interventions and stabilization of critically ill patients.
• Respond appropriately to cardiac, trauma, and other medical emergencies.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Perform ongoing reassessments and document patient status, interventions, and responses to treatment.
• Prepare patients for diagnostic tests, procedures, admission, transfer, or discharge.
• Provide patient and family education regarding treatment, medications, follow-up care, and discharge instructions.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Follow hospital policies, infection-control procedures, patient-safety standards, and emergency department protocols.

Looking for an experienced ED RN for a night-shift Oregon contract, caring for everything from urgent cases to critical cardiac, trauma, pediatric, and emergent behavioral-health patients. BLS, ACLS, TNCC, PALS, and active Oregon RN license required.
