Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Dept RN for a busy Level 3 trauma center, requiring active NY RN licensure and current TNCC certification.

Details

• 29-bed Emergency Department with a 4-bed Behavioral Health unit and 7-bed Fast Track, all capable of swinging to ER beds
• Level 3 trauma center treating adult and pediatric patients from neonate to geriatric
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, sometimes higher depending on volume in a very busy community setting
• 12-hour evening shift from 3:00 PM to 3:30 AM
• Minimum every other weekend required, with schedule adjustments based on unit needs
• Holiday coverage required; no on-call responsibilities
• No floating required
• Charge RN experience required for this role
• Uses Epic for documentation and Pyxis for medication management
• Special equipment includes Philips MP40 monitors and Alaris IV pumps
• Respiratory therapy and anesthesia support available 24/7
• No block scheduling available; self-scheduling not offered

Requirements

• Active NY RN license or proof of pending application with applied date required at time of submission
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC (AHA-issued)
• TNCC must be active or proof of class enrollment provided prior to start
• NIHSS certification required prior to start date
• Minimum 1 year of RN clinical experience required
• Minimum 1 year of Emergency Room specialty experience required
• Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years required
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred

Additional Information

• Manage a patient population that may include boarded patients, psychiatric patients, and COVID patients within general assignments
• Boarded patients may include medical/surgical, long-term care, psychiatric, or those awaiting admission or outsourcing
• Critical care ICU patients are transferred quickly to the ICU unit
• Nurses are responsible for starting their own IVs, performing EKGs, administering respiratory treatments, and managing drips prepared by pharmacy
• IV therapy support available during certain hours for difficult starts
• Support staff includes CNAs/PCTs, unit clerks, crisis clinicians, and advanced practice providers staggered throughout the day
• Orientation is 20 hours for short contracts and 24 hours for 13-week contracts
• Dress code requires navy blue or white scrubs, closed-toe shoes, and no artificial nails; must be clean shaven
• Strict zero-tolerance policy for cell phone or earbud use while working
• Public transportation is not accessible in this area, so reliable personal or rental transportation is strongly recommended
• Vehicles should be equipped with all-season or snow tires from November through April
• Local candidates are accepted
• Radius-based pay tiers apply, measured by direct line distance: Local (50 miles or less), Radius (51-100 miles), and Travel (101+ miles)
