Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level 3 trauma community hospital, requiring NY licensure and current TNCC/NIHSS certification.

Details

• Work in a 29-bed ED with a 4-bed Behavioral Health unit and 7-bed Fast Track, all capable of swinging to ER beds
• Level 3 trauma facility treating adult and pediatric patients ranging from neonate to geriatric
• Typical patient ratio is 1:5, with higher ratios possible during busy census periods
• 12-hour evening shift, 3:00 PM to 3:30 AM, 36 hours per week
• Rotating schedule with a minimum of every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required, but no on-call responsibilities
• No block scheduling available
• Uses Epic EMR and Pyxis medication system
• Special equipment includes Philips MP40 monitors and Alaris IV pumps
• Nurses perform their own IV starts, EKGs, and respiratory treatments
• Respiratory and Anesthesia support available 24/7, with Advanced Practice staff typically on the unit 8a-11p
• May be responsible for boarded patients, including psychiatric, medical/surgical, and long-term care patients awaiting placement

Requirements

• Active NY RN license or proof of pending application with applied date required at time of submission
• Current AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required
• TNCC certification required, active or proof of class completion prior to start
• NIHSS certification required prior to starting
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Minimum 1 year of ED specialty experience required
• Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years required, non-negotiable
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Prior travel experience preferred

Additional Information

• Nurses manage medication drips prepared by 24/7 pharmacy staff and perform their own straight sticks and EKGs
• Orientation is 20 hours for short contracts and 24 hours for 13-week contracts
• Dress code requires navy blue or white scrubs, closed-toe shoes, no artificial nails, and clean-shaven facial hair
• Strict zero-tolerance policy for cell phone or earbud use while working
• Public transportation is not accessible in this area, so reliable personal or rental vehicle is strongly recommended
• Vehicles should be equipped with all-season or snow tires during November through April
