Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring at least 2 years of combined adult/pediatric ED experience and an active IL license.

Details

  • Work in a 56-bed Emergency Department with an average daily census of 175 patients at a Level I Trauma Center
  • General Emergency Department setting treating combined adult and pediatric patients
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 or 4x12 hours (1900-0730)
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Uses Cerner charting system
  • 13-week assignment length

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required, or must be in the application process with a confirmed ETA to obtain licensure
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department nursing experience required
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC
  • AHA and Red Cross certifications accepted; RQI cards not accepted
  • General Emergency Department experience with combined adult/pediatric population required
  • Cerner charting experience required
  • Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills required, including dysrhythmia interpretation/management, multisystem organ dysfunction management, and 12-lead EKG acquisition
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy skills required, including blood product administration, phlebotomy, and IV starts
  • Medication administration skills required, including continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, IV vasopressors, and procedural sedation
  • Neurological case experience required, including CVA, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury
  • Orthopedic skill required: splint application/management
  • Pediatric case experience required across abdominal pain, asthma, head injury, infections, poison ingestion, respiratory infections, seizures, skin disorders, and abuse identification/reporting
  • Psychiatric case experience required, including acute psychosis, drug overdose, managing violent behavior, and suicidal patients
  • Respiratory case experience required, including chest tube insertion/management and intubation
  • Proficiency in isolation precautions/PPE and triage required
  • SSN and date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated acute care hospital with 562 staffed beds
  • Provide emergency nursing care across a wide range of adult and pediatric case types, including cardiac, neurological, respiratory, orthopedic, and psychiatric emergencies
  • Floating is required for all travelers and may include floating within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
  • Previous permanent or PRN employees of the hospital system must be separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • RTO is ideally limited to 5 days or fewer for auto-approval; additional time off requires facility approval
  • Candidates must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Travel pairs are not accepted
  • Scrub color: any solid color
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Housing in the area can be difficult to secure, so early planning is recommended
