Job Description

Job Title: Paramedic II Profession: Paramedic Specialty: Paramedic Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: One year ALS Paramedic experience required, preferred two to three years prehospital experience with a moderate call volume (>15,000 calls/year) 911 agency. License: Current Class C driver's license from NC or other state. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP. Must-Have: Knowledge of and appropriate application of Paramedic scope of practice. Description: The Paramedic II functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team providing direct patient care. The Paramedic performs a variety of activities across various practice settings and patient populations in accordance with the Paramedic scope of practice. Responsible for providing direct patient care under medical oversight. Assists clinical staff in the evaluation, treatment, and care of patients. Obtains pertinent history and performs a physical examination. Performs technical procedures as delegated. Monitors patients and maintains records using patient monitoring systems and electronic health records. Documents patients' status, delivery of care, and evaluation of the patients' response to care according to specific procedures and established protocols. Communicates essential information to all appropriate members of the healthcare team. Operates extensive medical and mechanical equipment in the hospital and transport environment. Ensures all medical equipment is functioning and restocks medical supplies as needed. Provides and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Properly disposes of and handles sharps, soiled materials, and linens according to policy. Acts as a preceptor and supports the development of other staff and formal learners. Participates in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities. Supports an environment of evidence-based practice, research, and quality improvement initiatives. Maintains certifications and clinical skills. Responsible for inspecting and documenting vehicle condition each shift and completing a road test of assigned ambulances. Responsible for minor repairs to the unit including changing light bulbs, replenishing fluids, and inspecting tires. Responsible for daily maintenance including fueling and cleaning of the vehicle. Assists with patient care as requested including loading and unloading and operating commonly used equipment. Provides direct patient care during ALS I, ALS II, or BLS transports within the defined scope of practice. Responsible for replenishing oxygen and medical supplies used during transport. Demonstrates safe driving skills and utilizes technology to complete missions safely. Assists with continuing education outreach programs and public relations events as assigned. Supports staffing coverage as needed. Knowledge required includes safety precautions and infection control procedures. Ability to assess the needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families. Must participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies. Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking. Must be able to lift and support weight up to 75 pounds while handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
