Job Title: Paramedic II Profession: Paramedic Specialty: Paramedic Duration: 8 Weeks Shift: Night 3x12-Hour Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: One year of ALS Paramedic experience required. Preferred two to three years of prehospital experience with a moderate call volume (>15,000 calls/year) 911 agency. License: Current Class C driver's license from North Carolina or other state. Certifications: Required - BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP. Preferred - PHTLS, BTLS, or ITLS. Must-Have: High School Diploma required, Associate's Degree preferred. Description: The Paramedic II functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team providing direct patient care. The Paramedic performs a variety of activities across various practice settings and patient populations in accordance with the Paramedic scope of practice. Duties include providing direct patient care under medical oversight. Assists clinical staff in the evaluation, treatment, and care of patients. Obtains pertinent history and performs physical examinations. Performs technical procedures as delegated. Monitors patients and maintains records using patient monitoring systems and electronic health records. Documents patients' status, delivery of care, and evaluation of the patients' response to care according to established protocols. Maintains an informative and accurate medical record to initiate charges for each patient treated. Communicates essential information to all appropriate members of the healthcare team to promote sharing of information throughout the continuum of care. Operates extensive medical and mechanical equipment in the hospital and transport environment, ensuring all medical equipment is functioning and restocks medical supplies as needed. Provides and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Properly disposes of sharps, soiled materials, and linens and disinfects areas in accordance with policy. Acts as a preceptor and supports the development of other staff and learners. Participates in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities. Supports an environment of evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives. Maintains certifications and clinical skills. Completes vehicle inspections and documentation each shift and performs road tests of assigned ambulances. Responsible for minor repairs to the unit and daily maintenance including fueling and cleaning of vehicles. Assists with patient care as requested, including loading and unloading, operation of commonly used equipment, and providing family members with information and directions. Responsible for providing direct patient care on ALS I, ALS II, or BLS transports as per the scope of practice. Demonstrates safe driving skills and ability to use technology to complete missions safely. Assists with continuing education outreach programs and public relations events as assigned. Knowledge of Paramedic scope of practice and appropriate application of professional theory, practice, and procedures. Ability to assess needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients, families, visitors, and the healthcare team. Ability to document assessments, plan of care, interventions, and evaluation of patient status. Able to withstand prolonged standing and walking and lift up to 75 pounds. Critical thinking and ability to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions. Physical requirements include walking, standing, lifting, carrying, and the use of fine motor skills. Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, and touch is required. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
