Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

This position is for an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse responsible for providing high-quality care to patients in a fast-paced environment. The role requires flexibility to work varying shift times, including night shifts and weekends, while contributing to a collaborative healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to a diverse patient population in the Emergency Room.
• Conduct patient assessments and evaluate patient needs based on presenting conditions.
• Administer medications and treatments as per established protocols.
• Collaborate with physicians, mid-level providers, and nursing staff to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Participate in critical care interventions for trauma and medical emergencies.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with hospital policies.

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in an Emergency Room or Trauma setting.
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and PALS (or ENPC).
• Competency in moderate conscious sedation procedures.
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Shift Information

This position includes 12-hour night shifts with varying start times of 3 PM, 5 PM, or 7 PM. The role requires working every other weekend and a commitment to at least two of three major holidays during the holiday season.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Emergency Room
• Bed Capacity: 31 beds
• Patient Ratios: 1:3-4
• Common Diagnoses: Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVAs), Gunshot Wounds (GSWs), Stroke (CVA) care, Myocardial Infarction (MI) management, and high-risk obstetrics.
• Approximately 11% of patients are pediatric.
• Dedicated resources include 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy services.

Orientation and Training

New hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation including a PASS/FAIL Sim Lab on the first day. Floor-specific orientation will last 2-3 days.

Additional Information

Candidates may be required to float between multiple locations within the region. An IV team is available for intravenous therapy support, and Paramedics will assist with starting IVs and performing tech duties. The Emergency Room is equipped to handle various medical situations, including stabilization for pediatric patients.
