Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Room RN for a busy Level 3 trauma community ED requiring recent Epic experience and a NY RN license.

Details

• Level 3 trauma Emergency Department with 29 ED beds, 4 Behavioral Health beds, and 7 Fast Track beds, all able to swing to ER beds
• Adult and pediatric patient population ranging from neonate to geriatric
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:5, sometimes higher depending on volume in a very busy community setting
• May be responsible for boarded patients (M/S, LTC, Psych), psychiatric patients, and COVID patients within general assignment
• Documentation via Epic and medication administration via Pyxis
• Special equipment includes Philips MP40 monitors and Alaris IV pumps
• Respiratory therapy and anesthesia support available 24/7
• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), 36 hours per week, rotating schedule
• Minimum every other weekend requirement with schedule flexibility based on unit needs
• Holiday coverage required; no on-call requirements
• No floating required, but charge experience is required

Requirements

• Active NY RN license or proof of pending application required at time of consideration
• Current certifications required: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, AHA PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC (active or proof of course completion prior to start)
• Minimum 1 year of clinical experience required
• Minimum 1 year of specialty (Emergency Room) experience required
• Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years required
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Prior travel experience preferred
• Must be able to perform own IV starts, EKGs, and administer respiratory treatments

Additional Information

• Nurses manage medication drips prepared by 24/7 pharmacy staff and may straight stick for labs or draw from IVs
• Advanced practice providers typically staffed on the unit from 8a-11p in staggered shifts
• 20 hours of orientation for short contracts, 24 hours for 13-week contracts
• Dress code includes navy blue or white scrubs, closed-toe shoes, clean-shaven facial hair, and no artificial nails
• Zero tolerance policy for cell phone or ear bud use while working
• No block scheduling available under any circumstances
• Reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended due to lack of public transportation in the area
• Employment gaps over 90 days must be explained
