Job Title: Cardiac Electrophysiology Technician Profession: Technician Specialty: Cardiac Electrophysiology Duration: 15 weeks Shift: Monday - Friday Hours per Shift: 10.5 hours Experience: Minimum of one year in Electrophysiology or relevant experience License: ARRT certification required; if a Registered Nurse, must possess an active RN license or compact/multi-state license Certifications: BLS (AHA) required; RCIS or RCES credential preferred Must-Have: Knowledge and experience in Electrophysiology procedures, including ablations and device implants. Competence in sterile technique and radiology systems. Description: The Cardiac Electrophysiology Technician is responsible for assisting with all procedures performed in the Electrophysiology laboratory. This position requires competency in using EP monitoring/stimulation systems, intra-cardiac echo, and 3D mapping systems. The technician must also demonstrate proficiency in sterile techniques and assist with the implantation of permanent pacemakers, ICDs, and bi-ventricular ICDs. A high degree of understanding of the interpretation of cardiac arrhythmias and invasive EP procedures is essential. The technician will operate and troubleshoot the x-ray system as needed and assist in cleaning and restocking the lab. Improving quality by monitoring the performance of EP procedures and offering suggestions for betterment is crucial. Clear, effective communication with physicians, staff, and patients is expected. The technician must respond calmly and efficiently to emergency situations that may arise in the lab. Respecting the confidentiality of all aspects of patient care is paramount. Professional behavior must be upheld at all times. The technician must adhere to safety standards and continuously strive to improve workplace safety by reporting unsafe conditions. Education and empathy are key to alleviating patient apprehension regarding invasive procedures. Responsibilities: Accurately enter patient demographics into monitoring and x-ray equipment. Collect and record patient data during procedures and relay this information accurately. Monitor patient, staff, and physician radiation exposure, keeping exposure levels as low as reasonably achievable. Assist the physician using proper sterile technique for all procedures performed in the lab. Demonstrate an understanding of all EP Lab procedures, including required supplies and indications for each procedure. Maintain active registry and certification through continuing education. Assist with materials management and ordering supplies for the lab as needed. Perform additional job duties as required. Work Demands/Environment: Frequent standing, walking, bending, and stooping. Frequent lifting and moving of patients. Intermittent lifting or carrying of over 50 lbs. Frequent pushing or pulling of over 50 lbs. Frequent use of hand dexterity and constant reaching with hands or arms. Frequent communication abilities, including talking and hearing.
