Job Title: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist IV Profession: Cardiovascular & Electrophysiology Specialist Specialty: - Duration: Variable Shift: 0730-1800 / 0630-1900 Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum Years of Experience required License: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist Certification, Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist Certification Certifications: Must maintain current BLS, ACLS, and CCI requirements Description: The Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist IV provides professional care in invasive cardiac, pediatric, and peripheral laboratories in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. This role involves working in either an adult procedural role in the cardiac lab or an electrophysiology lab, or a pediatric procedural role encompassing both areas. The specialist will work in a high-pressure environment that requires prolonged concentration and critical thinking. Physical demands include walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The specialist must be able to lift and support the weight of 50 pounds while handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English is essential. Candidates must have an intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, manual dexterity, and good eye-hand coordination. The role requires standing and walking while wearing lead radiation protection aprons weighing 10-20 lbs. The specialist must respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions, and there is potential exposure to radiation, secretions, and blood. The work area may be confined, and travel may be required. Educators must be a graduate of an accredited program in cardiovascular or cardiopulmonary technology or a related field. Invasive Cardiovascular Specialist or Electrophysiology Specialist training or experience is preferred. Responsibilities include performing and/or assisting with treatments, therapies, and procedures under the direction of a physician. The role encompasses administering medication under direct supervision and documenting current clinical information in patient records. Effective verbal and non-verbal communication with patients, families, and staff is crucial. The specialist also participates in performance improvement activities and assists in the development of policies, procedures, and standards of care. Participation in departmental education and training that supports job role/function is required. The role demonstrates evidence-based practices and includes participation in committee and governance activities. Leadership is demonstrated by serving as a preceptor and clinical resource for others. Specific responsibilities for the electrophysiology specialist include setting up and monitoring EP recording systems, assisting with mapping, stimulating, catheter insertions, programming devices, and ensuring device operation post-implant. The specialist is also responsible for deactivating defibrillators as requested by the anesthesiologist according to guidelines. Assisting with in-servicing new staff in electrophysiology topics is part of the role.
