Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Services position requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and an active AZ or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care hospital Emergency Department with 20 beds/trauma bays
• Fast track intake model with a separate triage area, and travelers may be assigned to triage as needed
• 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio, except intake areas which use team-based care with no set ratio
• ED RNs manage their own holds, which are intermixed within the ED
• One seclusion room available for psych patients, with in-house security on site
• Average of 105 patients per 24 hours
• Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, chest pain, MI, stroke, geriatrics, and high-acuity cases
• Central telemetry monitoring for all beds and halls except intake, with RNs reading their own strips
• RT provides ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow equipment, and performs ABGs and breathing treatments; ED staff perform EKGs
• Radiology is adjacent to the ED with house transporters available, though not always
• Nurses or ED techs draw labs off IV starts; phlebotomy handles other draws and blood cultures
• Shifts include midshifts (11-11, 12-12, or 2-2) and nights (1900-0700), with block schedule rotations preferred
• Every other weekend required at minimum
• On-call requirement of two 12-hour shifts per 4-week schedule
• Floating limited to East and West campus EDs only
• Uses Cerner EMR

Requirements

• Active AZ or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS (AHA only) certifications required
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing a contract
• Must complete and pass a SIMs Lab skills check for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• ED physicians and mid-level providers on staff, with 2-4 providers throughout the day
• Charge nurse and house supervisor support available on all shifts
• ED techs, paramedics, and patient sitters support the unit when staffing allows
• Educational (non-testable) training provided for lifts, restraints, and wound care during orientation
• Holiday coverage required per staff rotation, covering 2 major holidays per year
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
