General Information

Join our team at a 35-bed acute care facility located in the beautiful city of [City, State]. This facility operates multiple units, including an Emergency Room (ER), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Medical Surgical (Med/Surg) units.

Unit Information

• Emergency Room: 9 treatment spaces, including 8 beds and 1 hallway space
• ICU: 4 beds
• Med/Surg: 15 beds

Minimum Experience Required

A minimum of 1.5 years of acute care experience is needed. Candidates with Med/Surg experience may apply, while those with experience in ED or ICU will also be considered. First-time travelers are only accepted if they possess 2 or more years of experience.

Patient Populations

The facility serves patients of all ages across various medical conditions, including:

• Sepsis
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Alcohol Withdrawal (ETOH)
• Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
• Myocardial Infarction (MI)
• Trauma
• Stroke

Patient Ratios

• Emergency Room: 1:3-4
• ICU: 1:1-2 (dependent on acuity/age)
• Med/Surg: 1:5 (dependent on acuity/age)

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• TNCC
• PALS
• NIHSS (preferred)
• CPI (preferred)

Required Education

Candidates must have completed a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing and must be a Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in South Dakota.

Skills Required

Applicants should demonstrate the following skills:

• General Emergency Department experience
• Critical care experience for ICU holds
• Trauma experience
• Complex wound care and dressing changes
• Nursing assessments
• Comfort in floating between ED, ICU, and Med/Surg units

Support on the Unit

• Charge Nurse: Available (Hospital Coordinator)
• Phlebotomy: Available
• Resource Nurse: Same as charge nurse
• Respiratory Therapy: Available
• Hospitalist coverage with Advanced Practice Provider (APP) support at night

Charting System

The facility uses EPIC for charting.

Orientation and Scheduling

• Orientation: 2 days
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Holiday Expectations: Every other holiday
• Time Off Approval: Up to 7 days approved, with a requirement to extend the contract for 1 week for every week missed
