Emergency Department RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in West Virginia
• At least 1 year of recent emergency department nursing experience
• Previous Epic experience required for travel nurses
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association
• Current PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS certifications
• Strong IV insertion and patient assessment skills
• Ability to assess and care for patients with a wide range of emergency and acute-care conditions
• Comfort caring for patients requiring cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and ventilatory support in collaboration with respiratory therapy
• Willingness to work scheduled weekends and holidays

Emergency Nursing Responsibilities

• Perform rapid patient assessments, triage, ongoing reassessments, and emergency nursing interventions
• Provide emergency care for patients with cardiac, respiratory, metabolic, behavioral health, overdose, and other acute conditions
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and initiate appropriate interventions for dysrhythmias
• Initiate and titrate medications and drips within the nurse’s scope of practice, excluding chemotherapy
• Start IVs, collect laboratory specimens, and perform blood draws, including care of patients with difficult vascular access
• Care for patients receiving CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and ventilatory support in coordination with respiratory therapy
• Administer medications safely and mix drips when pharmacy support is unavailable, following department protocols
• Document assessments, interventions, responses to treatment, and discharge or admission education in Epic
• Collaborate with emergency physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, monitor technicians, paramedics, and support staff
• Maintain a calm, compassionate, and patient-focused approach in a fast-paced emergency department
